Working with the team at ActiveMD Medical Marketing & Customized Patient Education has been a great learning experience, especially in light of the current additional algorithm changes that Google has included recently in their Panda & Penguin (April & May 2012) updates. basically in my experience good Medical Marketing Search Engine Optimization is still about keyword rich content, that is authoritative, however, now it is also about two other basic ingredients that seems to confuse medical & health businesses (and medical marketing professionals). Those ingredients that effect (medical & health) businesses rank in search engine results are the following:

A) Good Social Signals – Your medical marketing content, medical web site, medical blog posts, need Facebook likes, Google Plus one’s and Tweets. The more people that have liked, plus one’d or tweeted your article. post or page, the higher your medical marketing content will climb in the search engines.
B) Length of stay on your page After Search Engine Query – A lot of people have complained about this in the SEO and Marketing world – but Matt Cutts (Google Engineer) has confirmed this – Google is now tracking the length of time a person stays on your page after a search engine query. So if a potential patient searches the term Breast Augmentation (or a potential client searches the term Medical Marketing) and then clicks on your page and leaves within a couple of seconds this will drive that term down in rankings. Consequently if they stay longer it will drive this term up in search engine rankings – This is great, although once again this proves what I have always said that you have to watch out for Negative SEO – since you could be a victim of these tactics against you and you should call Active Md Medical Marketing to protect yourself.
How do we use this information to actually create medical marketing content that actually ranks quickly in the search engines and promotes the above? Simple, we use everything we have learned from years of inbound medical marketing, traditional medical direct marketing experience , the evolution of social media, add search engine optimization and put it into one simple Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). I can not go through all of the steps of the procedure (that wold be like giving you the secret sauce), but basically here is a real life medical marketing experiment in action for a competitive medical marketing seo keyword, in a very competitive market for plastic/cosmetic surgery. The outcome will blow you away because it shows incredible medical SEO results quickly using these basic steps –
1) I created a domain name on Saturday morning, August 11, 2012 , while drinking a cup of Starbucks Bold Sumatra Blend (my favorite), I created and registered a brand new domain name – it was never used before – the domain name was my name with a hyphen (but it does not really matter) Kurt-Adam.com.
2) One hour later, after propagation, I created a blog using a CMS, with several plugins and modifications (30 minutes) and wrote my first post, you can read it on Kurt-Adam.com – the post was based on a real persons experience having a breast augmentation consultation and meeting Dr. Heller in Staten Island. The post (article) was built around the keywords Breast Augmentation and Staten Island. I wrote a 700 word article after watching a 5 minute patient video (thanks Active MD Customized patient education videos for editing the right stuff together).
3) I added one of Dr. Heller’s Breast Augmentation videos to engage users and keep them on page longer.

4) The content and site was automatically set to index with google and the pages were indexed in less then 24 hours.
5) I released the link to the article on my twitter, google plus, facebook and one other social networking site (high page rank sites).
6) In 48 hours it was showing up on page 3 of Google Search for Staten Island Breast Augmentation.
7) 11 days later it has moved to position 20 (bottom of page two) without any other content on the site that has anything to do with Plastic Surgery.
recap – new domain name, one 700 word keyword rich article, 48 hours on page 3 of SEPRS, and 11 days later on Page 2 of Google for keyword, using a highly competitive keyword term in a highly competitive market – will this work for your medical business – YES, can you do the medical marketing search engine optimization yourself – YES – if yo are willing to invest the time to find out what works, and how to integrate all of the behind the scenes to make this standard operating procedure work.
